SENIOR PETROLEUM ENGINEER

Lagos Full Time Posted: 04 Oct 2026

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Petroleum Engineer to provide integrated reservoir and production engineering expertise in support of field development, production optimisation and asset performance.

The role will focus on reservoir and well performance evaluation, production forecasting, depletion planning, reservoir surveillance, reserves and resources evaluation, and the identification and maturation of opportunities to improve production and recovery.

The successful candidate will work closely with Geology, Geophysics, Wells, Production and Facilities teams to translate subsurface and production data into technically sound recommendations that support safe, reliable and economically effective upstream operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform integrated reservoir and production engineering studies to support asset development and production performance.
  • Develop production forecasts, depletion strategies and reservoir surveillance programmes.
  • Evaluate reservoir and well performance using pressure, production, PVT and other subsurface data.
  • Analyse production and reservoir trends to identify opportunities for improved well and field performance.
  • Evaluate and mature opportunities for infill drilling, workovers, well interventions and production optimisation.
  • Support reserves and resources evaluation and provide technical input into Field Development Plans (FDPs).
  • Integrate reservoir, well, production and facility constraints into development and optimisation studies.
  • Collaborate with Geology, Geophysics, Wells, Production and Facilities teams to develop integrated technical solutions.
  • Support technical and economic evaluations of field development and production opportunities.
  • Provide petroleum engineering input into business planning, investment decisions and asset performance reviews.
  • Prepare technical reports, forecasts, studies and presentations for management and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assurance and recommendations on reservoir and production engineering activities.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, continuous improvement and optimisation of field development and production strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10–12 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, with strong upstream Exploration & Production (E&P) exposure.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience in petroleum engineering, reservoir evaluation and production optimisation.
  • Practical experience in production forecasting, reservoir surveillance, reserves evaluation and field development planning.
  • Strong understanding of reservoir and well performance evaluation using pressure, production and PVT data.
  • Experience identifying and maturing well and field development opportunities.
  • Good knowledge of applicable HSE requirements, operational controls, technical procedures and documentation standards.
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering body is desirable.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or a related discipline will be an advantage.

Technical Expertise

  • Reservoir engineering and simulation.
  • Production forecasting and optimisation.
  • Reservoir and well performance evaluation.
  • Reservoir surveillance and pressure/production analysis.
  • Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) analysis.
  • Reserves and resources evaluation.
  • Well opportunity identification and maturation.
  • Infill drilling, workover and intervention evaluation.
  • Field Development Plan (FDP) preparation and technical support.
  • Depletion strategy and reservoir management.
  • Integration of subsurface, well, production and facilities data.
  • Uncertainty and technical risk assessment.
  • Petroleum engineering studies and technical assurance.
  • Preparation of technical reports, forecasts and management recommendations.

What We Value

  • Strong safety mindset and personal accountability.
  • Sound technical judgement and structured problem-solving ability.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to technical detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex reservoir and production data and develop practical recommendations.
  • Strong commercial and asset-development awareness.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration across multidisciplinary subsurface and operational teams.
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and execution discipline.
  • Ability to identify, communicate and escalate technical and operational risks appropriately.
  • Integrity, professionalism and commitment to company procedures and technical standards.

HSE & Compliance

  • Comply with applicable company HSE policies, procedures, Permit-to-Work requirements, risk assessments, isolation controls and emergency-response arrangements.
  • Incorporate HSE, well integrity, process safety and operational risk considerations into petroleum engineering studies and recommendations.
  • Identify and appropriately escalate technical, operational and asset performance risks.
  • Ensure technical recommendations are developed in accordance with approved engineering standards, procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Stop or escalate unsafe work and promptly report incidents, near misses, equipment defects and abnormal operating conditions where applicable.
  • Maintain required role-specific medical, safety and professional certifications throughout the assignment.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to contribute to integrated petroleum engineering, field development and production optimisation initiatives, working across multidisciplinary subsurface and operations teams to support improved recovery, asset performance and sound investment decisions.
