INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL TECHNICIAN
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and technically competent Instrument and Control Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of instrumentation, control, and safety systems on offshore production facilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and testing of field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, process-control systems, and safety systems, ensuring equipment reliability and compliance with applicable operational and HSE requirements.
This role requires strong hands-on instrumentation experience, excellent diagnostic skills, and proven ability to work safely and effectively in an offshore oil and gas environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, inspect, and calibrate pressure, flow, level, and temperature instrumentation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot analyzers, control valves, actuators, and positioners.
- Diagnose and rectify faults associated with PLC, Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Fire & Gas (F&G), and process-control systems.
- Carry out instrumentation loop checks, functional testing, commissioning, and cause-and-effect verification.
- Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment.
- Inspect hazardous-area instrumentation and installations to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
- Maintain accurate calibration certificates, maintenance records, equipment history, and technical documentation.
- Support equipment diagnostics, Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), defect elimination, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Identify equipment defects and abnormal operating conditions and escalate them appropriately.
- Support shutdown, commissioning, start-up, and equipment reinstatement activities as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, with strong upstream E&P exposure.
- Proven hands-on experience in instrumentation and control maintenance within comparable offshore or production environments.
- Strong working knowledge of HSE requirements, operational controls, maintenance procedures, and technical documentation.
- CompEx, ISA, City & Guilds, or equivalent certification is desirable.
- BOSIET/HUET and valid offshore medical certification where applicable.
- Other relevant technical or industry certifications will be an added advantage.
Technical Expertise
The successful candidate should demonstrate practical and recent experience in:
- Field instrumentation maintenance and calibration.
- Pressure, flow, level, and temperature measurement systems.
- PLC, ESD, and Fire & Gas (F&G) system troubleshooting.
- Process-control systems and associated instrumentation.
- Control valves, actuators, and positioners.
- Instrumentation loop checking and commissioning.
- Functional testing and cause-and-effect verification.
- Hazardous-area and Explosion Protection (Ex) systems.
- Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), equipment diagnostics, and fault finding.
- Preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance.

- Comply with all applicable HSE policies, procedures, Permit-to-Work requirements, risk assessments, isolation procedures, and emergency-response arrangements.
- Execute instrumentation and control activities in accordance with approved procedures and safe systems of work.
- Apply appropriate isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements before commencing maintenance activities.
- Maintain safe working practices when working on instrumentation and equipment within hazardous areas.
- Stop or escalate unsafe work practices or conditions.
- Promptly report incidents, near misses, equipment defects, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Maintain all required offshore medical, safety, technical, and professional certifications throughout the assignment.
